Additional information

Some biographical details

Craftsman Roland (1919 - 1945) of Victoria Villas, Todholes Road, Cleator Moor, Cumberland (now Cumbria) was the second son of Thomas Fee and Jane Ann Fee (née Hunter) who had married in 1916. He was killed in action in Holland (the Netherlands) on 21 February 1945. Thomas and Jane Anne's other children were Leslie, Stella, Winifred and Edith. Roland Fee's elder brother Leslie also served in the Army during WW2 and was wounded during the fighting in Italy.

According to a letter written by his company captain, Roland Fee was killed by an enemy bomb dropped from a great height by a 'sneak raider'. At the time he had been working near his base.

Craftsman Fee was buried with full military honours. His coffin was carried by four of his best pals. His final resting place is at Tilburg in the Netherlands. Roland Fee is also commemorated on the Cleator & Trumpet Terrace War Memorial and the Cleator Moor 'Roll of Honour'.

Roland Fee had joined the Army just before the outbreak of the war (Border Regiment) and was involved in the fighting and subsequent evacuation at Dunkirk. In civilian life before the war Roland Fee worked in the warehouse of the Cleator Moor Co-operative Society.
