Also his mother, MAUD McMEAN
who died 9th February 1939
Age 57

Harold died of illness (T.B.) whilst on active service on 9 March 1939. Originally, he had enlisted to the Border Regiment and so Harold had a Border Regiment service number (3602481).

An older brother, James McMean, was later Mayor of Whitehaven. It was during his mayorality that the charter granting the Freedom of the Borough of Whitehaven to the Border Regiment was signed.
