The Missing Greyhound

The article on the Armoured Bde's equipment was extremely interesting to me inasmuch as I had known most of the equipment but in the Armoured car section there is a glaring omission in the fact that the Greyhound Armoured car is missing.

The 16/5th lancers were equipped with both the Greyhound and the much heavier and higher Staghound Armoured cars when they were predesignated as a recce regiment prior to leaving Austria for Libya in the late 1947. I personally had a lot of fun swanning around lower Austria ostensibly "on patrol" but actually visiting the neighbouring villages to find the next "tanzabend" which was of greater importance - especially in the long cold winter evenings.

Thank you peter - I went all around the houses in order to change that title but alas - I think it is my innate failure to understand the language used by these professional "geeks" - who insist that you have failed to complete the required formulae without adding what the required formulae should be - it then devolves on the age old spelling of the word "ass/u/me" - which tends to make an ASS / out of U/and /ME -me particularly !!!

Further to the tale of the missing Greyhound - I am reminded of the true tale of a long time ago when I was escorting a medical rep to meet many of our customers all over Alberta - His name was John Trout - and we had many adventures on his name alone - this day we had finished and were heading for home and as we came to the main entrance to the freeway - I asked him if anything was coming - he answered in his Californian drawl - " No jest a dawg "
I hesitated , thinking on this - thankfully as a massive Greyhound bus thundered by missing us by inches !
